Spring Courses

ALL NSHS STUDENTS MUST HAVE A SPRING MATH COURSE

Spring courses begin Monday, January 23rd. Reminder: Math is a required course to maintain enrollment at Nevada State High School. Any student that does not have a math class must schedule a math course for the Spring 2012 semester immediately, otherwise their schedule is incomplete. If any student is transferring math credits from GBC to CSN to prove eligibility, please be advised that you must submit a transcript from GBC to the CSN math department for approval to take the next math course. A copy of your unofficial transcript can be printed from your myGBC account and submitted for verification. It was recommended by Nevada State High School staff that this process be completed prior to winter break as the process can take a few weeks to complete. Please exercise patience with all CSN or NSHS representatives that you come in contact with while trying to resolve your math course issue.

***Students that took the SAT or ACT may also use their scores to place into a higher math class. Retaking the math placement test at CSN may also help students qualify for the next math level.

NSHS Textbook Policy

Students are responsible for obtaining their textbooks for their college classes. Students must first check with the Business Operations Coordinator to determine if a required book is in the school’s inventory for their use. Otherwise, the student is responsible for purchasing their textbooks. To be reimbursed for textbook purchases for 100% of the cost, student MUST follow textbook procedures and policies including, but not limited to:

Completing, submitting, and gaining NSHS ‘official’ signature on a completed textbook reimbursement form by the documented dates on textbook form in the beginning of the semester.
Submitting a completed FRL form to NSHS. (These were due at the beginning of the semester)
Returning, textbooks/original receipts/original textbook reimbursement form by deadline at the end of each semester (see textbook form for deadlines);
Reimbursement will not be given for textbooks that NSHS has in stock for student check out;
Checking out books for FREE that NSHS has in stock:
Students must submit the exact books they checked out as the books are coded;
Textbooks must be returned in the same condition it was issued;

If students choose to keep their textbooks, lose their textbooks, destroy their textbooks, or fail to complete and follow the textbook reimbursement form by the timelines, they will NOT be reimbursed the cost of the books. Students needing financial assistance may contact the office of NSHS to request that the school purchase their textbooks up front each semester. NSHS follows the federal free and reduced lunch matrix to determine financial need which is based on submission of the previous year’s tax return Form 1040. This request must be completed by August 26th and December 15th for each semester and is not guaranteed. Call 702-953-2600 to gain information regarding guidelines for meeting free and reduced lunch matrix and questions regarding the required paperwork. Students will receive direction during the two-week course on the textbook procedures.

IMPORTANT:

Students who borrow NSHS books or have the books purchased up front and do not return the books by the deadline will be refused loaned books or reimbursement for subsequent semesters;
Reimbursements requests for textbooks must adhere to the dates given on the textbook form;
Textbook reimbursements are paid on the 15th following the last day of textbook form collection;
NSHS will not grant financial assistance or reimbursements for textbooks for students who do not complete the required forms.

ATTENTION: Students will only be reimbursed for textbooks purchased through www.efollet.com or through CSN’s bookstores. NSHS will NOT reimburse students for any books purchased through alternative means.

Students will be expected to keep the books in good condition whether they are bought or borrowed from NSHS. Students must have the original textbook form and receipts to be eligible for reimbursement. It is recommended that students get a copy of documentation after receiving signatures from NSHS administration. Failure to turn textbook documentation in by the deadline will forfeit student reimbursement. Please note that parents/guardians will need to be listed to receive the reimbursement, not the students (even if you are 18).

To review textbook resources and request the books from NSHS, use the link provided below or on the MOODLE links. To request textbooks students will be required to lookup all books and list them on a Textbook Reimbursement Form. They will then need to check the Textbook Inventory for books available through NSHS and mark the books they intend to purchase (if unavailable). This form will then need to be brought to the NSHS office (233 N. Stephanie, Henderson, NV 89074) and submitted to administration to have the requested books pulled.
